David Brent Thornton

An Artist from St. Louis, Missouri and living in Florissant, a suburb of St. Louis. My interest in art began at a early age, when the ability to draw was discovered. The early influence was realism and artist’s like Rembrandt and Michelangelo. Around 13 years old, I was exposed to Salvador Dali and a interest in surrealism began.

I had to pay for college and managed degrees in Fine Art and Commercial Art. Worked many years as a Commercial Artist and doing commission work. Now retired from any type of public employment and working on the art I like, which best expresses myself.

The main body of work has been described as contemporary, visionary and surreal. While primarily a painter, I work with various media. Any style of art or subject may be explored, though surrealism remains most prevalent. Late 19th and 20th century art movements are a large influence; also artist’s like Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Edvard Munch, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Rene Magritte, Salvador Dalí , among others. Now later on in life, I like blending society and cultural influences of the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s through present, as well as doing works solely representational of the subject.
